Waterford CoCo3rd class students from St. Declan’s N.S. and St. Ursula’s Primary School took part in a Waterford City Council ‘Our City’ event in conjunction with Junior Achievement. This event was a great opportunity for the students to learn more about their City.

The event was opened by Paul Kelly from the Planning Department who explained to the students about how our city is planned. The students then took part in two Junior Achievement workshops which were delivered by Waterford City & County Council staff in the Large Room at their offices on the Mall. The workshops covered topics such as the city zones, how they are planned and how buildings are constructed and built to scale.

Teacher Margot Greene from St. Declan’s B.N.S. said “Thank you for providing such a worthwhile and rewarding experience for the students. The boys thoroughly enjoyed their trip and their knowledge and awareness of how a city is planned and the zones in a city has been greatly enhanced”

To mark the end of this great event each of the students were presented with Certificates of Achievement by the Mayor of Waterford City & County, John Cummins. A great learning experience was had by all.
