60 Castleblayney College TY students recently completed the Junior Achievement ‘Success Skills’ programme with business volunteers, Amy Clinton & Christina Dwan, both from Prometric, a test development company based in Dundalk.
In the course of the programme Amy & Christina imparted valuable knowledge about the working world, which helped the students to make the link between the importance of staying in education and the job choices open to them in the future. Each student completed an individual skills assessment, practiced and developed a range of interpersonal skills that are key in the workplace, such as building rapport, influencing others and teamwork. Working with Amy & Christina helped to demonstrate the relevance of each element of Success Skills to school, to work, and to life.

Reflecting on her students’ experience on ‘Success Skills’, Olivia Kennedy, TY Coordinator Castleblayney College said: “The programme was a very worthwhile project for our TY students. The learning resources provided were very helpful and acted as a good focus for the students. The two speakers, Amy Clinton and Christina Dwan, were both very professional in their approach, well-prepared and created an atmosphere in the classroom which was both fun and informative for all of our TY students. We really appreciate them taking the time to take part in this programme and are grateful to both Junior Achievement and Prometric for providing this initiative to our school. The students learned a lot and it was very refreshing for them to have visitors in the classroom that can reinforce the learning that is done through the various modules in Transition Year in both work experience and careers. It also gives them an insight into what the working world is like while providing them with the various tools and skills to prepare them for their future chosen careers.”
