Students from Coláiste Bhaile Chláir participated in a unique event recently when they took part in Europe4Youth, sponsored by the Department of Foreign Affairs’ Communicating Europe Initiative.

Europe4Youth is a series of interactive workshops for second level students, informing them of the advantages of being an EU citizen. Also actively engaged in the event were the students’ teachers and volunteers from local businesses based in Galway who gave up their time to work with the students at this event. Volunteers from SAP, Arm and MetLife taught the workshops and also shared their personal experience with the students.

The workshops help students and participants to gain an understanding of the benefits to the individual and wider community that EU citizenship brings. The students learned that as an EU member, Irish people are eligible to work in any other EU country without obtaining a Visa so effectively we are no longer a small island, but part of a much larger community. This has never been more important with the advent of Brexit!

On completing all the workshops, an EU quiz was held and the winning Coláiste Bhaile Chláir students were presented with their prizes!
