Students in Cork have been participating in the Finance Your Future programme during 2016/17. The programme, sponsored by the MetLife Foundation, is designed to enable students to understand how to manage their own personal finances and to link education and career choices with the work of work.

Over 300 students from 9 secondary schools in Cork completed the programme this year.  The programme was delivered by business volunteers from a range of supporting organisations in Cork including KPMG, Musgrave, Johnson Controls, Gas Networks Ireland, Janssen, Stryker, AIB and BNY Mellon. Over the course of five weeks, students were given the opportunity discuss issues such as the value of your education, earning potential, insurance, pensions and balancing your own personal budget.

A TY student from St. Aidan’s Community College Ballyvolane commented “I learned that it is vital to save money and look ahead to your future. It’s also important to finish school and get a good Leaving Cert as it opens up so many doors and gives you opportunities. I enjoyed this programme a lot.
