87 students from Scoil Mhuire na nGael had an exhilarating end to the school year when they completed the ‘Our Universe’ programme with Pamela Dagg, Louth County Council. Working with Pamela, the students explored the role of science in industry in Ireland today. To underline the diverse nature of science and the variety of careers in which science plays a key role, the students also had the chance to work with Garda Grace Harvey who guided the budding detectives as they used newly-acquired skills in chromatography to help Pamela to solve the ‘Mystery of Maggie’s Manor’. Elizabeth Sloane, Scoil Mhuire na Gael, commended Pamela on facilitating the programme, commenting: “On behalf of the sixth class teachers I would like to thank Pamela Dagg for conducting the ‘Our Universe’ programme with our classes. The children thoroughly enjoyed the lessons and the teachers felt they were of great educational benefit, particularly the forensic science workshop when Pamela invited our local Community Garda to participate. We hope to avail of Pamela’s expertise again next year.”
