A ‘science-tastic’ day at the EPA

Denise Mc Elvaney and Carmel Duffy who work for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in Monaghan stepped out of the lab and in to the classroom recently to teach second class pupils in St. Mary’s Boys N.S. and St. Louis Girls N.S., Monaghan all about ‘Our Community’.

Through hands-on activities, the students learnt all about workers, the work they perform, why workers are paid and what taxes are etc. Denise and Carmel also informed them about their important work in the EPA and invited the class in on a site visit where they performed some exciting science experiments.

Following completion of the in-classroom programme and site visit the students were left inspired with many already thinking about a career involving science. One student commented “I feel like a real-life scientist, it was amazing.”
