Cathnia Ó Muircheartaigh a native of Dún Chaoin in Co. Chiarraí and a fluent Irish speaker. He is Principal of Coláiste Pobail Osraí, a Gaelcholáiste in Kilkenny City under the patronage of Kilkenny and Carlow Education and Training Board. Cathnia is a former president of the National Association of Principals and Deputy Principals (NAPD) who represent post primary and further education school leaders. He has also been president of Gaelscoileanna Teo. (Gaeloideachas), a body which represents both primary and secondary Irish medium schools. He is also on the board of COGG and is chair of Kilkenny School Completion programme.

He is passionate about education and about the Irish language. He believes in using technology as a tool to improve the learning of our young people.

He is a strong advocate of the importance of bodies like NAPD in aiding collaboration and in influencing positive change. He stresses the need in supporting all school leaders not only the deputy principals and the principals in their huge and varied workload through dialogue at local level through the regions and at national level.
