Local schools in Cork continue to enjoy a successful link with Cork City Council

In November 2016, the Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr. Des Cahill welcomed Cork City Council staff volunteers to the Council Chambers to celebrate their contribution to city schools in delivering JA programmes. Cork City Council has been a valuable partner since 2006, indeed almost 100 Cork City Council staff volunteers have delivered JA programmes to students – from Senior Infants to Leaving Cert – during that time.
Lord Mayor Cllr. Des Cahill said, “The generosity of our staff at Cork City Council in giving their time to deliver Junior Achievement programmes to the young students of Cork is such a display of good citizenship. I am confident that their efforts will be rewarded with good citizens of the future. I am are very proud of our Junior Achievement volunteers here in Cork City Council and I congratulate Junior Achievement on 20 years of supporting the youth of Ireland.”
So far this year, 12 Cork City Council staff members have facilitated programmes in primary and secondary schools in Cork city centre, reaching almost 240 students. TY students from Mayfield Community School visited the City Hall recently and were hosted by Deputy Lord Mayor Cllr. Joe Kavanagh and long-standing Junior Achievement volunteer Marcella Whelan-Kelly. The school has a long relationship with Junior Achievement and several Cork City Council volunteers have delivered programmes in the school over the years.
