AOL volunteers opened the doors of their offices last week to give local 6th Class students from St Patrick’s National School, Chapelizod a fantastic day in the company of their teacher, Jason and staff member, Maria.
From the moment of their arrival, the students took full advantage of the learning experience, studying the scale model of the very impressive nautical-themed complex on display at reception.
Travelling to the 10th floor, they were greeted by 12 AOL mentors who worked with each of the five teams to finalise their business projects. As well as taking on board the ‘Four Ps of Marketing’ (Price, Product, Promotion and Place), the students participated in conference calling and video linking.
After a morning of workshopping with their mentors and a final check that all the preparations were in place for the presentations to the ‘Dragons’, the students were treated to a tour of the rest of the offices, with the games room on the 11th floor and the impressive balcony area overlooking Heuston station and the Phoenix Park, particularly popular. The free flowing soft drinks and delicious pizza made the experience all the more enjoyable.
The volunteers’ enthusiasm and encouragement ensured each student enjoyed an exceptional experience. The ‘Dragons’ (Clare Tanner & Eain Jones) really put the students through their paces. Reflecting on the event, Eain said: ‘It was a brilliant day and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone here in AOL. We were on a high for the rest of the day.’
6th Class teacher Jason Keelan summed up his observations of the day’s activities at AOL by saying: ‘Thanks so much for having us! It was brilliant! Everyone had serious fun and I think the pressure of speaking in public will stand to them. So many of the students said they would like to work there so maybe it might act as encouragement to work hard in the future now that they have seen the possibilities!!’
