Students from Drumfad National School, Fanad, had a day to remember when they enjoyed a study trip to Marine Harvest this term. The students were welcomed by Kathleen Mc Grory & Julie Coyle who made the children feel very welcome. Finley Shiels gave the students a guided tour of the processing plant, where they got to see the fish arrive on site and then followed the full process until they saw the salmon fillets packaged and ready for shipping. Nigel Teape & Bernie Hegarty worked with the students in one of the laboratories on site, discussing the tests that are conducted and the equipment in use to keep all systems operational throughout the process. The visit allowed all the visitors to see STEM skills in action, in this case the production of high quality, safe food thus allowing the students to relate their application relates to the real world. Sarah Narin, Principal, Drumfad National School thanked all of involved from Marine Harvest for hosting such a memorable and informative day for the students.
