JAI have an expo at the iWish conference in the RDS on the 6th of February 2025. JAI are committed to ensuring that girls know STEAM could be for them!
At the expo, we are giving girls a chance to complete a career interest inventory, find their future STEAM career, assess their engineering skills and identify a candidate in just 6 seconds!
Why 6 seconds? Hiring managers spend an average of 6 seconds scanning a CV before deciding to bring that person on to the next stage or not. It is important to build your CV to reflect this quick scan.
Here are some tips to make your CV stand out:
- Keep your CV to 1-page!
- Begin your CV with a 1-2 line professional summary – ensure to highlight the core skills required for the specific job you are applying for.
- Ensure layout is easy to read and well laid out. Think fonts, spaces and titles.
- Triple check your spelling and grammar – studies show that 49% of recruiters reject CVs because of spelling errors.
- Adapt your CV to fit the job description. Make sure that skills and experience required in the job description are easily identifiable on your CV.

Remember that there are so many tools available to you to get you started but a CV needs a personal touch. It should highlight your experience and skills, not the AI’s!
What’s the point of maths? Why the big deal about punctuality? And who’s going to give me a job anyway – I don’t have any stand-out-from-the-crowd talent! JAI’s Second level programmes are structured, hands-on and activity based, focusing on enterprise, communication and interview skills as well as financial literacy. These programmes take the mystery out of negotiating the path from school to a career that suits each student’s individual strengths.
